Holiday Workouts

By, Gabby Reece

Here are some of my favorite workouts to do on my own and with the family. Since during the holidays my family is together so much I try to think of fun ways to get us all outside!

CIRCUIT TRAINING
My circuit workouts are a great way to get it done and get on with the Holiday craziness.  These total body cardio and strength conditioning 30-50 minute workouts will get you in shape in a fun way.

SNOW BOARDING
If you are lucky enough to have snow on the ground and a mountain of any kind nearby what can be more fun than being active in the snow! You can go snowboarding or skiing, have a snowball fight, or go sledding. I do not live in the snow so I am sure you snowbirds have a lot more activities you can share with us.

CROSS COUNTRY SKIING
If you live somewhere that is flat then I am love with cross country skiing.  Burn some serious calories, safe for everyone to do and gets you outside.

BEACH GAMES
For my warm weather people how about go to the beach as a family?  I’m not talking about breaking out the beach towels in 50 degree weather, but what about a “take turns” approach to a sprint workout.
You and your partner can grab the kids and go take a nice walk.  One can take a quick run and when he or she gets back the other can go.  Or you can make a game of it and involve the kids.  I like to find markers, and on the beach there are often times perfectly spaced out garbage cans.  So you tell the kids “Ok, we are going to walk to that can and then when we get there we are going to run as fast as we can to the next can.” We want to try and do this 10 times. This way it’s fun and you can slide a workout in between.  Remember we never make our kids “workout”.  This all has to be framed within the guise of FUN.  You may be huffing and puffing, but they are just playing.

Shake out those Holiday cob webs and sugar comas and get moving.  You will actually enjoy your Holiday so much more.

Happy Holiday Season, Gabby
