ABOUT THE HAMPTONS PADDLE & PARTY FOR PINK

The second annual summer “Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink” fundraiser, to be held on Saturday, August 17, 2013, benefiting The Breast Cancer Research Foundation will be an event in two parts—a multi-skill level paddle boarding race and benefit party co-hosted by prominent New Yorkers Lisa and Richard Perry and full-time Hamptons residents Maria and Larry Baum. The event will bring together dozens of competitive paddle boarders and several hundred guests in support of raising critical funds for breast cancer research. The race will take place at Havens Beach in Sag Harbor; the party will take place at the spectacular residence of Lisa and Richard Perry. We are thrilled to have celebrated athletes, Gabrielle Reece and Laird Hamilton as our special guests.

Co-chair Maria Baum, mother of four and co-owner of the well-known Sag Harbor restaurant Tutto Il Giorno, took on paddle boarding as an exuberant activity to help her cope through her breast cancer diagnosis, treatment, and subsequent recovery. She will once again race alongside longtime paddler Richard Perry and the anticipated 100-plus paddlers. The race will follow World Paddle Association (WPA) racing rules and all racers will be timed with the WPA Blast Race Management System. Following the race, guests will revel at a sunset party.
Last year’s event, which drew such guests as Tory Burch, William Lauder, Gigi Mortimer, Thom Filicia, Reed Krakoff, and Donna Karan, raised over $675,000 in funds that went directly toward the Foundation. Highlights included heartfelt remarks from Baum and an inspiring overview of the Foundation’s mission to find a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime from BCRF Scientific Advisory Board Chairman Clifford Hudis, MD (Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, MSKCC).
ABOUT THE BREAST CANCER RESEARCH FOUNDATION

Founded by Evelyn H. Lauder in 1993, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® (BCRF) has raised more than $440 million to advance the most promising breast cancer research worldwide that will help lead to prevention and a cure in our lifetime. In 2012-2013, BCRF grants will be supporting 197 dedicated researchers at major medical institutions across the globe. If not for BCRF, many facts about the genetic basis of breast cancer would not be known, the link between exercise, nutrition and breast cancer risk would not be established, and the rate of mortalities would not continue its downward curve. BCRF-funded scientists are responsible for these and many other critical achievements. Currently, 91 cents of every dollar spent by BCRF is directed towards breast cancer research and awareness programs. BCRF remains one of the most fiscally responsible charities in the country.  For the tenth time since 2002, it has earned 4 stars from Charity Navigator.  Additionally, BCRF is the only breast cancer organization rated an “A+” by CharityWatch.
